Renovation works and upgrade of Siaya County Referral Hospital Emergency Department Unit is in the homestretch with final touches being undertaken before operationalization.
The department upgrade, a collaborative venture between the County Government of Siaya and Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation has seen the unit fully revamped with major works done including the installation of 2 by 4 oxygen manifold with automatic change system.
Another new addition is a complete oxygen piping and connection to the main supply throughout the unit as well as installation of 14 bed heads with lighting, oxygen and power sources for medical equipments.
The Emergency Unit has also benefitted from the installation of a broad stainless sluice sink.
The Nursing Station has been mordenized among other contemporary requirements and fittings.
The department will also have a number of equipments installed to enhance service provision to emergency patients including:
1. Five cardiac monitors with mountings
2. Two vital sign monitors and trolleys
3. One medical refrigerator
4. 14 modern emergency stretchers
5. Three stainless 3-tier drug trolleys
This is major milestone in fulfilling Nyalore administration’s agenda in improving emergency medical care and to reduce mortality together with morbidity of patients presenting emergency medical conditions to the department.
Other notable recent improvements in the medical sector under Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo are six dispensaries in Siaya County that have been upgraded to level three facilities, enhancing healthcare service delivery. These facilities will have crucial amenities like CT scans, well-equipped theaters, Intensive Care Units, renal units, and oxygen amenities.
Concurrently an ultra-modern Surgical Theatre Complex is being constructed at the Siaya County Referral Hospital.
Governor Orengo has also been working to improve the supply of drugs to all facilities and stop shortages, addressing issues related to the budget cycle and bureaucracy between the County government and KEMSA. The hospital’s upgrade to a Level 6 facility is expected to enhance service delivery, given its huge population.
