At least 13 pupils were injured on Tuesday after two school buses carrying 101 learners collided in the Riting area of West Pokot County, triggering a swift multi-agency rescue operation.
The injured, comprising six boys and seven girls, were rushed to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital for treatment as emergency responders worked to evacuate pupils from the wreckage and secure the accident scene.
The Kenya Red Cross, working alongside county emergency teams from West Pokot and Turkana, deployed ambulances and rescue personnel to respond to the crash. An additional ambulance from Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) also joined the rescue effort, ensuring the injured received prompt medical attention.
Preliminary reports indicate the learners were travelling on an educational trip when the accident occurred. However, the circumstances surrounding the collision remain unclear, with traffic police launching investigations to establish the exact cause.

The crash sparked anxiety among parents and residents, with dramatic images from the scene showing one of the buses overturned after the impact while rescue teams attended to the injured.
Officials had not reported any fatalities by the time of publication, urging the public to rely on verified information as investigations continue.
The latest accident has once again brought the spotlight onto road safety involving school transport, reigniting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, routine vehicle inspections and enhanced driver safety measures to protect learners travelling across the country.
Police are expected to release a detailed report once investigations into the West Pokot school bus collision are concluded.
