Former Constitution Implementation Committee (CIC) chairman Charles Nyachae has been called up to a government role months after flunking the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairmanship hunt.
President William Ruto has appointed Nyachae the non-executive Chairman of the Kenya School of Government Council for three years.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, re-appoints Charles Nyachae to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government Council for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 13th July, 2025,” read the president’s gazette notice published on Friday, July 11.
The appointment is a relief to Nyachae, who did not impress the IEBC selection panel and had to withdraw his Chairmanship bid citing conflict of interest.
The presidential appointment to the leadership of the Kenya School of Government is decidedly a lifeline.
Nyachae was among the 11 candidates shortlisted to steer the IEBC but his candidature sparked public outcry due to his known close ties to the president.
The Selection Panel settled on Erastus Edung Ethekon a rank outsider.
Ethekon was approved by parliament, appointed by the president and later sworn in by Chief Justice Martha Koome to steward the commission.
Nyachae is a child of onetime prominent post-independent politician, the late Simeon Nyachae.
Meanwhile, the president appointed Ali Noor Ismail to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Pest Control Products Board and Abdi Mude Ibrahim as the non-executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute, all to serve for three years.
