Big Win for Teachers as Government Rolls Out KES 1 Billion Promotion Deal
Spread the love

The government has officially announced the promotion of thousands of teachers across the country in a major boost aimed at improving morale, motivation, and the overall quality of education in public schools.

In what is being hailed as a big win for educators, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Tuesday confirmed that over 36,000 teachers will benefit from the newly launched KES 1 billion promotion deal. The move is part of wide-ranging efforts to revamp the teaching profession and reward commitment, performance, and continued professional development.

TSC Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said the promotions followed a rigorous and transparent selection process, with considerations made for merit, experience, and regional balance to ensure fairness and equal representation across all counties.

“This is part of our commitment to recognizing the outstanding service of our teachers and enhancing their career growth,” said Bitok.

The promotions will cut across various job groups in both primary and secondary schools, with particular priority given to:

Teachers in acting capacities for extended periods,

Those serving in remote and hardship areas, and

Educators who have attained further academic qualifications.

The KES 1 billion allocation underscores the government’s renewed focus on the teaching workforce as a cornerstone of national development. The commission noted that it will continue collaborating with the Ministry of Education to ensure regular and structured career progression.

Many educators have welcomed the announcement, saying it arrives at a crucial moment when teacher morale had been declining due to stagnation in career growth. Several union leaders praised the move, urging the government to institutionalize promotions as a regular and predictable part of public service.

The promoted teachers are expected to receive official appointment letters in the coming weeks, with new roles and salary adjustments to follow.
