President William Ruto on Sunday made a high-profile visit to Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi’s home in Sidindi, Siaya County, where he was warmly received by the CS, his family, and local leaders.
Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga was among those who accompanied the Head of State during the courtesy call, which saw the leaders share moments of camaraderie and pose for photos.
“Thank you, President William Ruto, for calling on us at our Sidindi residence, Siaya County. Ubarikiwe,” Wandayi wrote on his official X account after the visit.
Earlier in the day, Ruto joined worshippers at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Maseno West, before commissioning the Sh1 billion Ugunja–Sega–Ukwala Water Supply and Sanitation Project.
The project, which will deliver more than 10 million litres of clean water daily to nearly 20,000 households, was hailed by the President as a “game-changer” in improving sanitation, livelihoods, and the quality of life in the region.
Ruto also presided over the groundbreaking of the Sidindi Fresh Produce Market, a modern hub designed to empower farmers, traders, and small businesses. He pledged that the government will construct 18 new markets across Siaya County, providing dignified trading spaces and expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs.
“Decent markets are more than just stalls; they are engines of inclusive economic growth,” the President told residents of Ugunja town, where he also engaged directly with traders and locals.
The visit underscored Ruto’s growing political inroads in Siaya, with the symbolism of calling on CS Wandayi—once a fierce opposition figure—drawing keen public and political interest.
