The “Sakaja Magic” has officially exploded onto the national stage — and this time, it’s at the 12th edition of the KICOSCA Games in Siaya, where Nairobi’s newly fortified Green Army squads have delivered jaw-dropping performances that stunned rivals and electrified fans.
Governor Johnson Sakaja, popularly known as Mbekse, took a bold gamble by hiring and integrating members of the Green Army into Nairobi’s sports structure — and the results are now paying off spectacularly.
In one of the most intense clashes of the tournament, Nairobi’s women’s handball team pulled off a narrow but heroic 13–12 victory over Kisumu in a fierce, adrenaline-fueled duel. The win sends the Mbekse ladies into a high-stakes final against Vihiga, with confidence soaring and the coveted trophy firmly within reach.
If the women were brilliant, the men were devastating.
The Nairobi men’s handball team unleashed a brutal 30–12 demolition of Vihiga, combining strength, precision, and perfectly executed set pieces. The trio of Jefferson Mugendi, Robin Mosomi, and sharpshooter Christian Oduor orchestrated flawless pick-and-drop sequences, with Oduor finishing every attack with clinical accuracy.
Goalkeeper Stephen Waweru stood tall between the posts, shutting down Vihiga’s attempts and steering Nairobi into the finals in emphatic fashion.
The teams are expertly marshalled by the experienced coach Wilfred Madara, whose tactical genius is visible in every play.
Beyond sweeping the handball categories, Nairobi’s dominance is being credited to Sakaja’s strategic decision to recruit and empower the Green Army — a group previously known for beautifying and cleaning Nairobi’s streets.
Now, they’re not just keeping the city spotless — they’re delivering sporting glory.
Their discipline, fitness, and teamwork have transformed them into an unstoppable force, giving Nairobi one of its strongest KICOSCA performances in recent years.
With both men’s and women’s teams storming into the finals, the Sakaja-led sports revolution is taking shape. The Green Army experiment — once a surprise — is now being hailed as a game-changing investment for both the city’s environment and its athletic prowess.
All eyes now turn to the finals, where Nairobi stands on the brink of double glory.
The Sakaja Magic is real — and KICOSCA may never be the same again.
