The race to join the country’s most prestigious legal training programme just got an unexpected extension — and thousands of aspiring lawyers are breathing a sigh of relief.
The Kenya School of Law (KSL) has officially extended the application deadline for the 2026/2027 Advocates Training Programme (ATP) to Friday, December 19, 2025, giving prospective candidates two crucial extra weeks to complete their submissions.
In a statement released on Friday, December 5, KSL announced the new deadline, urging all qualified applicants not to waste the extended window.
“We are pleased to announce that the application window for the Advocates Training Programme (ATP) – 2026/2027 Academic Year has been extended. New Deadline: Friday, 19th December 2025,” the institution said.
KSL clarified that all application requirements remain unchanged, emphasizing that all submissions must be completed through the online portal.
The ATP is the gateway to admission to the bar, making it one of the most competitive postgraduate programmes in Kenya. Every year, thousands scramble to secure a slot — and missing the deadline means waiting another long year.
The extension is widely seen as a lifeline for applicants still gathering documents, awaiting results, or finalizing fee payments.
The 2026/2027 application cycle opened on September 2, 2025, with KSL CEO Henry Mutai inviting eligible candidates to send in their applications. Classes officially kick off on February 9, 2026.
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Mandatory Academic Requirements
Minimum B (plain) in English or Kiswahili
Mean grade C+ at KCSE or equivalent
At least 2 principals and 1 subsidiary in KACE, totaling 10 points
Pass in all 16 mandatory core law subjects under the Legal Education Act
Hold or qualify for conferment of an LL.B degree from a recognized university
Required Uploads on the KSL Portal
LL.B degree certificate or proof of eligibility
Full academic transcripts for all four academic years
KCSE or equivalent certificate
National ID or valid passport
Passport-size photo
Proof of payment of the KSh 2,000 application fee
The fee must be deposited into the KSL Co-operative Bank Account No. 01129706350500.
All applications must be submitted through the official portal at www.ksl.ac.ke.
Securing a place in the ATP is not just an academic milestone — it’s the final critical step before joining the ranks of Kenya’s legal fraternity. With the extension now official, KSL has effectively reopened the door for hundreds who were on the verge of missing out.
But with just days left before the new deadline lapses, the message is clear: apply now or wait another year.
