The murder trial of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen has taken a dramatic turn, with court proceedings revealing the existence of a crucial eyewitness whose testimony is painting a disturbing picture of the events surrounding his brutal killing.

In gripping testimony before the High Court, a former employee at Cohen’s Kitisuru residence placed himself at the centre of the unfolding mystery — recounting suspicious activity, unsettling instructions, and eerie signs that something had gone terribly wrong inside the affluent home.

The witness told the court he was among the last people to see Cohen alive on July 19, 2019 — the same day prosecutors believe the businessman was murdered. Days later, upon returning to work, he found his employer had vanished without warning. What followed, he said, raised immediate alarm.

According to his testimony, Sarah Wairimu allegedly convened a meeting with household staff and coached them to mislead investigators — instructing them to claim Cohen had travelled to Thailand with a red suitcase.

But behind that carefully crafted narrative, the witness described something far more sinister.

He recalled noticing unusual activity around the compound — particularly near the area where Cohen’s body would later be discovered. Fresh mounds of soil, disturbed ground, and hurried clearing of vegetation around a concrete slab signalled to him that something was being concealed.

The same witness also linked the alleged cover-up to escalating domestic tensions, telling the court that Cohen had confided in him about a violent altercation shortly before his disappearance — claiming he had been physically injured during a dispute at home.

Prosecutors now appear to be building a case that hinges not just on forensic evidence, but on this chilling eyewitness trail — one that captures the immediate aftermath of the alleged murder, the hurried attempts to obscure it, and the cracks in a story that investigators say was designed to mislead.

The weight of this testimony has been underscored by the court’s own actions. Judges have already raised concerns about possible witness interference, denying bail to the accused partly to protect key witnesses expected to testify in camera.

Cohen’s body was ultimately discovered hidden in an underground tank within his own compound — a grim confirmation of suspicions that had been building for weeks.

As the trial intensifies, the eyewitness account is emerging as one of the most pivotal elements in the prosecution’s case — offering a rare, ground-level glimpse into the moments before and after the tycoon’s disappearance.

If believed, the testimony could transform the case — from a puzzle of circumstantial evidence into a chilling narrative of murder, concealment, and a witness who may have seen too much.
