Former Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga Amoth has intensified his bid for the Siaya Senate seat after hosting a high-profile delegation of bishops at his Segere home in a powerful show of spiritual and political backing.

The prayer-filled gathering, led by Bishop Obonyo of Cathedral of Praise–Nairobi, brought together prominent clergy including Bishop Opiyo of Rock Reek Ministries–Siaya, Bishop David of Zion Temple–Busia, and Bishop Oyoo of JCC–Siaya. The bishops, drawn from all six constituencies of Siaya County, united in offering prayers and blessings for Rasanga’s senatorial candidature, seeking divine guidance and success in his political journey.

In his address, Rasanga struck a confident tone, expressing optimism about clinching the Senate seat. He anchored his campaign on a track record of development achievements during his two terms as governor, positioning himself as a seasoned leader ready to champion Siaya’s interests at the national level.

He highlighted flagship projects undertaken under his administration, including the construction of Siaya Stadium, the establishment and equipping of the County Headquarters, and the upgrading of key health facilities into sub-county hospitals such as Ambira, Ukwala, Yala, Bondo, Got Agulu, Sigomere, and Rwambwa.

Rasanga also pointed to the launch of the Siriwo Rice Mills, the construction and equipping of over 200 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, and the extensive roadworks that opened up rural areas through grading and murraming, significantly improving connectivity and access to services.

Drawing on his governance experience, Rasanga emphasized his deep understanding of the structural and legislative challenges facing county governments. He argued that his tenure has uniquely equipped him to push for stronger devolution frameworks and more effective resource allocation at the Senate.

“These achievements reflect my commitment to transformative leadership and service delivery. I am confident that the people of Siaya will once again entrust me with leadership to represent their interests at the Senate,” he said.

The event was also attended by Members of the County Assembly, including Hon. David Ragen, Hon. Felix Okumu, and Hon. Andrew Omwende, alongside local opinion leaders and other distinguished guests, underscoring growing grassroots and institutional support for Rasanga’s bid.

As the race for the Siaya Senate seat gathers pace, Rasanga’s blend of political experience, development record, and faith-based endorsement is shaping up to be a formidable force in the contest.
