Students of Chianda High School are expected to report back on Tuesday, July 7, under heightened security and strict administrative protocols following a dormitory fire outbreak in early June that forced the abrupt closure of the institution.

The reopening marks a carefully managed return to learning after weeks of disruption, with school authorities introducing firm measures aimed at restoring discipline, ensuring safety, and preventing a repeat of past incidents.

In a clear shift toward tighter control, all returning students will undergo a structured re-admission process at the school gate. Each student will be issued with a new serial number, establishing a monitored reporting system designed to enhance accountability within the school.

Security presence has been significantly reinforced, with two police officers stationed at the gate alongside teachers to conduct thorough checks. Additionally, every student must be accompanied by a parent or guardian — a directive intended to strengthen parental involvement in student conduct and school governance.

After clearance, students and their parents or guardians will proceed to sign a mandatory “Back to School Agreement Form,” a binding commitment outlining behavioral expectations and institutional rules.

The agreement requires students to pledge adherence to core values, including respect for fellow students, teachers, and school staff, protection of school property, and full participation in both academic and co-curricular programmes. It also explicitly bars involvement in any form of indiscipline such as demonstrations, class or meal boycotts, idle talk, or destruction of property.

Students are further required to commit to remaining in school for the entire academic period as directed by the government, a move aimed at minimizing disruptions to learning.

Among the new regulations is a ban on hooded jumpers, which school administrators say have previously been linked to concealment and misconduct. Authorities have warned that failure to comply with the outlined rules will result in immediate release of the student to return home.

By signing the agreement, both students and their parents or guardians formally acknowledge and accept the conditions set by the school, pledging to uphold discipline, responsibility, and mutual respect.

Senior Principal Mr. Francis O. Ouko said the measures are part of a broader effort to rebuild trust, restore order, and safeguard the welfare of learners following the fire incident.

“This is a moment of renewal for the school. We are putting in place firm but necessary measures to ensure a safe, disciplined, and academically focused environment,” he stated.

The early June dormitory fire, whose cause is still under scrutiny, served as a wake-up call for stricter oversight and reinforced safety protocols, setting the stage for a more controlled and accountable school environment as students resume classes.
