A new era for youth sports in Kenya has begun following the election of Siaya County Director of Sports, Dr. Sanmac Okoth, as the National Chairperson of the Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA).
Dr. Okoth clinched the influential seat after a fiercely contested election, positioning himself at the helm of one of the country’s most critical platforms for nurturing young athletic talent. His victory signals renewed hope for thousands of aspiring athletes across all 47 counties.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairperson struck a unifying and forward-looking tone, emphasizing collective ownership of the win.
“This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to every county, every athlete, every coach, and every stakeholder who believes in the transformative power of sports,” he declared.
Dr. Okoth wasted no time in outlining a bold and transformative agenda aimed at elevating KYISA from a national competition platform into a globally recognized hub for talent identification and development.
His strategic blueprint focuses on:
– Nationwide Talent Scouting: Strengthening systems to identify and nurture talent in every corner of Kenya
– Professional Pathways: Creating structured links to clubs, academies, and international scholarship opportunities
– Inclusivity in Sports: Expanding participation for women, marginalized communities, and diverse sporting disciplines
– Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with government agencies, corporate sponsors, schools, and international bodies
– Good Governance: Enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency within KYISA
– Athlete Empowerment: Supporting post-competition opportunities through mentorship, education, and employment pathways
Placing athletes at the heart of his leadership philosophy, Dr. Okoth underscored the need to prioritize their welfare, growth, and future.
“To our athletes, you are the heartbeat of this organization. Every decision we make must ultimately improve your opportunities and secure your future,” he affirmed.
The sports administrator also lauded the Independent Electoral Panel and the KYISA National Executive Council for conducting what he described as a transparent, credible, and democratic election process—an exercise that has strengthened trust in the institution.
Dr. Okoth concluded his address with a rallying call to all stakeholders to embrace unity under a shared mission:
“One KYISA, One Vision, One Future.”
As Kenya continues to position itself as a sporting powerhouse on the global stage, stakeholders are now watching closely to see how Dr. Okoth’s leadership will redefine youth sports and unlock the country’s vast, untapped potential.
