Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has called on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to seize the political moment by building a broad-based opposition coalition with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Babu said Sifuna’s growing national appeal through the Linda Mwananchi movement has positioned him as one of the country’s emerging opposition figures, but cautioned that defeating President William Ruto will require unity rather than competing presidential bids.
The outspoken legislator argued that Sifuna should immediately initiate talks with the three influential leaders, saying each commands significant political support in key regions and would strengthen the opposition’s chances if they rallied behind a common agenda.
His remarks come as political realignments continue to gather pace across the country, with opposition leaders intensifying consultations over the shape of a formidable coalition to challenge Kenya Kwanza in 2027.

The movement has particularly resonated with young people and urban voters, elevating Sifuna’s profile beyond his traditional ODM support base.
Even so, the opposition landscape remains crowded. Kalonzo Musyoka is widely viewed as a leading presidential hopeful with years of experience, Fred Matiang’i continues to command support as a technocrat with a strong governance record, while Rigathi Gachagua remains a key political force in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.
Babu maintained that these strengths should complement rather than compete against one another, warning that a divided opposition would only strengthen President Ruto’s re-election prospects.
His appeal reflects growing calls within opposition circles for leaders to place coalition-building above personal ambition and present Kenyans with a united, credible alternative in 2027.
With political temperatures already rising, Babu’s intervention adds fresh urgency to the debate over who should carry the opposition’s presidential flag and whether its leading figures can overcome individual ambitions to forge a formidable national alliance.
