17 Members of the Siaya County Assembly have come out to deny rumours that they rejected an invitation from President William Ruto to visit State House.
Led by Majority Leader Martin Otieno, the MCAs clarified that they had no problem attending such a meeting and that the trip was meant to benefit the people of Siaya, not for personal gain.
Otieno stressed that the invitation was not turned down, but rather rescheduled.
“We did not refuse to go to the State House. The visit was about development, and we are fully in support of that,” Otieno said while speaking at the County Assembly premises.

North Ugenya Ward MCA Bernard Adala explained that the visit, which was initially planned for Wednesday, May 14, had to be pushed to a later date because Governor James Orengo and other top county officials were unavailable.
The leaders believe it’s important to attend such a meeting as a united team.
Central Gem MCA Silas Madingu supported the explanation, saying they wanted the entire county leadership involved.
“We learned the governor was out of the country, and we agreed to postpone the visit so we can go as one united team,” Madingu said.
Nominated MCA Dorothy Oinga added that they are ready to visit State House once the governor returns from his official trip abroad.
The MCAs also shut down claims that there are plans to impeach Governor Orengo. Otieno and Madingu both made it clear that no impeachment motion has been discussed or submitted, and there is no intention to remove the governor.
“There is no impeachment plan. Governor Orengo has done nothing wrong,” Otieno assured.
This comes at a time when Orengo has grabbed public limelight following his vocal criticism of the broadbased agenda despite ODM’s decision to work with Ruto’s government. Orengo’s move has emphasized a widening rift in ODM Party with a section of leaders supporting him while others brand him anti-development.
The Siaya MCAs have now put to rest earlier media reports that the State House visit was cancelled to snub the Energy CS James Opiyo Wandayi who had gone behind the governor to organize it.
