Siaya Speaker of County Assembly Rt. Honourable George Okode, today led a high-powered delegation of County Officers in marking the Pre-Devolution Exhibition held at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium.
Okode who was standing in for Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo extolled the potential that will be harnessed to ensure locally available raw materials are used prudently in value chain addition and for development of the economy of Siaya.
He singularly praised Governor James Orengo for the steady incremental improvements that are now being felt all-round by the residents of Siaya. He was also full of praise for the support and amicable relationship between the Governor and the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party leadership.
“I want to thank the Right. Honorable Raila Odinga for according Governor James Orengo political support and ensuring the County is led in the right direction by working together for the betterment of Siaya,” said Okode.
“Today we have witnessed tremendous talents among our people. We have seen innovation, value chains in agriculture, health and in other areas, people living with disability, youth showcase their talents,” said the Speaker, adding “We are optimistic of being number one at the upcoming devolution conference.”
The main Devolution Conference 2025 is set to take place from August 12 to 15, 2025, in Homa Bay County. This conference aims to assess the role of devolution in promoting equity, inclusion, and social justice, and generate practical proposals for bridging the socio-economic divide.
The theme of the Conference will be:Â “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice”
Kenya’s 47 counties will be showcasing various innovations and the Chief Guest will be the President of the Republic of Kenya Dr William Samoei Ruto.
Participants in the exhibition today included lead innovators, in various fields from the county who have been pioneering in project innovations with majority sourcing their raw materials locally. Stands showcased products aligned to health, agriculture, trade, water and a number of other sectors that continue to affect livelihoods in Siaya and beyond.
Siaya County Secretary Joseph Ogutu also praised the talents and innovations on display, exuding confidence Siaya County will emerge at the top in the upcoming devolution conference.
Also present at the event was the Siaya County Assembly Majority Leader and MCA for Ugunja, Martin Edwin , Ukwala Ward MCA, Peter Oduor and Gem East MCA Baraka Seth among others.
The County Executive Members present were CECMs [Trade] Grace Agola, [Health] Martin Konyango, [Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries] Sylvester K’Okoth.
Others present were Chief Officers [Governance ICT and Administration] Walter Okelo, [Health] Dr Samuel Omondi, Chief of Staff Col. Cyrus Oguna, [Gender & Social Services] Judith Patel, [Education] Richard Ogeda and Gender Representative Winnie aka Simba Nyiri.
Departmental Directors present were George Okelo [Governance] and Chrispine Omondi [Public Communication].
The national government was represented by Regional Commissioner Yuda komora and all Police Service Commanders.
