Kenyans seeking essential government documents like ID cards or birth certificates may soon have a much faster experience, thanks to a new technological upgrade coming to Huduma Kenya.
On July 24, the Huduma Kenya Secretariat (HKS) announced that it will roll out Multi-Biometric Identification (MBI) systems and live capture machines across selected centers.
The goal of this rollout is to streamline processes and allow citizens to receive vital documents on the same day.
Currently, acquiring documents such as national IDs, birth certificates, or other government cards can take several days or even weeks. But with the introduction of MBI systems and real-time capture tools, citizens will be able to apply for and collect some documents within just a few hours.
How the New Multi-Biometric System Works
The multi-biometric identification system combines various forms of biometric data, such as fingerprints, facial recognition, to verify identities more accurately and securely.
This approach helps in reduction of fraud, duplicate records, and errors in the registration and identification process.
When combined with live capture machines, which instantly record biometric data and photographs in real-time, the system ensures faster, more accurate data collection and processing.
Over the years, Huduma Kenya has become the face of efficient service delivery in Kenya. By offering more than 70 public services in one location, Huduma Centers have made it easier for millions to access government services.
Although the government hasn’t released a specific launch date, HKS stated that the first phase of implementation will begin at selected high-traffic Huduma Centers.
The pilot program will help fine-tune operations before a full nationwide rollout. Officials expect these changes to be fully operational in the coming months.
