CCTV footage from Meridian Apartment in South B has laid bare the harrowing final minutes of delivery rider Antony Otieno, whose bound body was later discovered stuffed under a bed in a rented unit — a chilling crime that has sent shockwaves across Nairobi.
Otieno was last seen alive on Tuesday, November 18 at 11:49 AM, entering the building with his signature blue delivery bag, believed to contain an iPhone 17 Pro Max meant for a client. Calm, focused, and on a call as he took the elevator to the fourth floor, nothing about his demeanor hinted at the deadly trap that awaited him.
Minutes after Otieno’s arrival, the CCTV narrative sharply shifts.
At 12:02 PM, cameras capture a man descending the staircase carrying the same blue bag. He is followed by another man moving quickly, and a third suspect — shirtless, panicked, and clutching a package — dashes down moments later. The trio appear visibly unsettled as they hurriedly zip up the bag.
Outside, a Nissan Note (KDL 336E) pulls up. Two suspects hop in, and shortly after, a woman in a cape arrives and is handed their luggage before the vehicle speeds away.
A Sinister Plot That Started a Day Earlier
Rewound footage from Monday, November 17 uncovers the premeditation.
7:22 AM: One suspect enters the building carrying the same blue bag, accompanied by another man.
1:00 PM: A woman — later seen during the escape — joins them.
6:00 PM: The woman leaves the apartment with the blue bag.
The bag’s comings and goings now appear central to the unfolding mystery.
The rental unit is owned by Charity Muthoni Muchoki, who told investigators she received a booking request for a month-long stay. The tenants promised to pay the next day.
On Tuesday morning, they texted her again, claiming they would settle the bill by 4 PM. When she made a routine visit earlier, one of the men asked her to return later. Sensing something off, she lingered around the building.
Her suspicions deepened when she spotted the group rushing out with the blue bag. She confronted them, demanding payment. When they refused, she seized the bag and headed upstairs to inspect the room.
At the fourth-floor unit, Muchoki found the door locked. After unlocking it, she immediately saw bloodstains on the floor.
Horrified, she called for help from neighbors. Together, they searched the room — and found the motionless body of a man crammed under the bed.
It was Antony Otieno.
His hands and feet were tied with rope, and a piece of cloth stuffed in his mouth — the final evidence of what had unfolded behind the apartment door.
Investigators are now pursuing the suspects captured on CCTV as the case sparks widespread outrage and renewed calls for better security measures for delivery workers who face growing risks in the line of duty.
This developing story continues to grip the nation as detectives piece together the full extent of the deadly scheme — and the motive that led to the cold-blooded killing of a hardworking rider simply doing his job.
