ADVERTThree suspects have been arrested over a daring home invasion in Chiga, Kisumu East Sub-County, after dramatic CCTV footage of the robbery spread rapidly across social media, triggering nationwide outrage and a swift police crackdown.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that the suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation mounted by detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) in Nyanza working alongside officers from DCI Kisumu East.
According to investigators, the operation marks a significant breakthrough in unraveling the violent robbery that occurred on July 30, with detectives recovering crucial exhibits believed to directly connect the suspects to the crime.
The first arrest was made at Kisumu Rotary College, where detectives apprehended Reagan Otieno Silvester, whom investigators believe is one of the three men captured on CCTV during the raid.
Police allege that Silvester was the suspect seen carrying away a stolen 55-inch Hisense television from the victim’s residence.
ADVERTFollowing his arrest, detectives traced the gang’s movements to Rabour in Kadibo Sub-County, where they launched another operation targeting the remaining suspects.
The raid resulted in the arrest of Christopher Onyango Okoth and Fidel Omondi Were. However, a fourth suspect, identified as Mohamed Ramadhan alias Moha, reportedly escaped by scaling a perimeter wall moments before officers could corner him.
Despite his dramatic escape, detectives searched Ramadhan’s rented house in Nyang’ande, recovering an imitation pistol hidden beneath a bed together with several SIM cards believed to be of investigative value.
A separate search at Reagan Otieno’s residence yielded additional items suspected to have been stolen during previous robberies.
Among the recovered exhibits was a national identity card belonging to a victim of a violent robbery in which a 55-inch television and other valuables had been stolen—evidence investigators believe could strengthen the case against the suspects while helping link them to other criminal incidents.
The DCI confirmed that all three suspects remain in police custody as they undergo processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
Authorities have secured all recovered items as exhibits while detectives intensify efforts to arrest the fugitive suspect and identify the rightful owners of the recovered property.
In a separate development, detectives have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of his wife following a domestic dispute in Sabwani, Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County.
Police officers from Waitaluk Police Station, assisted by detectives from DCI Kiminini and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers, responded after receiving a report from the area Assistant Chief.
Upon arriving at the couple’s home, officers found the body of Joan Nanjala lying on a bed with multiple injuries, including a dislocated right shoulder, a deep cut above her right eyebrow and injuries to her right leg.
Preliminary investigations indicate the fatal assault followed a domestic disagreement that escalated into deadly violence.
Crime Scene Investigation officers documented and processed the scene before transferring the body to Cherangany Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to establish the exact cause of death.
The DCI says investigations into both cases remain ongoing as detectives pursue additional suspects and gather further evidence for prosecution.
