The Siaya ladies football team are through to the semi-finals of the 10th Edition of Kenya Youths Inter-county Sports Association games at Asumbi Teachers Training Collage, Homabay County.
Siaya’s 1-0 victory propelled them to the semi-finals for the first time. A goal from Yvonne Messy secured the win. This significant achievement places the Siaya team closer to the coveted title.
Earlier, Siaya ladies had a thrilling match with Homabay at Asumbi Primary School and were defeated 1-0, but that did not dampen their spirit.
Meanwhile, the Siaya men’s basketball team secured a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing KYISA games. They registered 63-66 points against Homabay in the thrilling encounter at Asumbi TTC.

And Siaya Volleyball ladies thrashed Tana River 3-0 to qualify for Semis.
The game ended with a final score of 3-0, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the last second.
Siaya started off strong, dominating the first quarter with a score of 25-11. The team showcased their skills and determination. The team maintained the score in the two sets having 25-18 and 25-13 respectively.
According to the lady’s basketball coach Geoffrey Odeny, the team played a robustly tactful game.
“First, I would like to thank the Siaya County Government according us such a wonderful platform to showcase our talent. Tana River played well, they had a height advantage, but we played a tactical game, pressing hard through their defence to secure the win,” said coach Odeny.
A similar victory was witnessed in the basketball courts where Siaya, the defending champions qualified for Semis after beating Kilifi 68-48.
According to coach Hermon Omondi, the Siaya ladies basketball team won against Kilifi County by 20 points (68-48) hence qualifying for semi-final where they will now meet Homabay County who topped in their pool.
The defending champions emerged second in their pool after losing by one point which is known as half basketball against Makueni.
“Siaya basketball men played against Homabay and we lost the game in the last minutes by 3 points (71-68), so we hope that the 9 minutes match between Kitui and Homabay will continue today and will determine our fate,” said coach Herman Omondi.
Mr Omondi further said that if Homabay won, Kitui will be out and that means that Siaya will be second in the pool and will now meet Makueni in the Semis.
In the men’s football, Siaya team was knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Migori who beat them 3-1 in a penalty shootout. In men’s volleyball Siaya faced a similar fate in their match against Makueni.
However, they were knocked out on the technicality of point-ratio.
Director Sports Dr Sanmac Okoth thanked the players for their efforts and the fans for their support.
“We knew that if we persevered that the goals would come and performance would be better.
The girls’ football has been through to second position/1st runners up in the past two editions.
“I wish to sincerely encourage the athletes to continue fighting their best to retain Siaya County’s previously won titles. I trust that watoto wa “Nyalore watalipa.”
