President William Ruto has mourned the 21 people killed in Friday evening’s horrific crash at the Coptic blackspot on the Kisumu–Kakamega Highway, urging swift justice for any negligence.
“Our prayers are with the victims… May the Almighty give strength to the families,” Ruto said, also pushing for a nationwide crackdown on reckless driving and traffic violations.
The 5:30 pm crash involved a school bus ferrying mourners from Nyahera to Nyakach. The vehicle reportedly lost control while negotiating a corner, rolling over and leaving 10 men, 10 women, and an eight-month-old baby dead.
Twenty survivors were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital—five in critical condition.
Nyanza Traffic boss Peter Maina said the cause is under investigation, with mechanical experts set to inspect the bus.
