A fierce political storm is sweeping across Nyanza after Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo delivered a stinging warning to Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, declaring that “her days are numbered.” The explosive remarks follow days of tension over allegations that Omollo undermined ODM’s candidate in the recently concluded Kasipul by-election.
Governor Wanga—who doubles as ODM’s national chairperson—accused Omollo of covertly backing independent candidate Philip Aroko over ODM’s Boyd Were, a move she deemed a violation of the ODM–UDA broad-based cooperation agreement.
But PS Omollo has fiercely dismissed the accusations.
In a fiery rebuttal, the Interior PS accused Wanga of political dishonesty and attempting to bully leaders who refuse to bow to partisan pressure.
“Gladys Wanga, your days are numbered. You brought your candidate and we brought ours. The people of Kasipul made their wise choice. Don’t bring us your politics of fear and conmanship.”
Omollo further charged that Wanga routinely disrespects leaders aligned with President William Ruto while pretending to support development on the surface.
“When the President builds schools and hospitals, you smile for the cameras. But when no one is watching, you mobilise people to fight the same government projects you publicly praise.”
Continuing his sharp critique, Omollo said politicians who prioritize opposition theatrics over development have held the Luo community hostage for years.
“Let Governor Wanga show the people of Homa Bay what she has delivered—and compare it to what President Ruto has done. The era of empty promises is over.”
As the political temperatures rise, PS Omollo is witnessing a wave of grassroots solidarity.
Recently, thousands of women in Kisumu took to the streets to defend the Interior PS, accusing Wanga of intimidation and propaganda aimed at derailing Omollo’s development-focused agenda.
The women praised Omollo for:
Providing housing for vulnerable families
Paying school fees for needy students
Supporting youth enterprises through tuk-tuks and motorcycles
Championing community-led development programs
They dismissed Wanga’s claims of political interference as “baseless and malicious.”
In a powerful show of solidarity, widows in Bondo town today staged a public march through the streets, protesting what they described as Governor Wanga’s disrespect toward PS Omollo.
Chanting pro-Omollo slogans and carrying placards, the widows declared that the senior government official has been a lifeline for many of them.
Several women credited Omollo’s philanthropy for:
Building or renovating houses for widows living in dilapidated shelters
Providing food support, bursaries, and basic needs for their children
Sponsoring income-generating activities to help them rebuild their lives
One widow told reporters, “If not for PS Omollo, some of us would still be sleeping in leaking mud houses. We cannot allow anyone to insult a man who has stood with us.”
Their march added a new and emotional dimension to the intensifying political feud.
Meanwhile, the aftershocks of the Kasipul by-election are tearing through Homa Bay’s leadership.
Governor Wanga has:
Locked her deputy, Oyugi Magwanga, out of his office
Removed him as CEC for Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock
Shuffled key county executives seen as insufficiently loyal
The drastic measures have heightened suspicion of widening cracks within ODM’s local power networks.
Analysts warn that the escalating drama could redraw Nyanza’s political map, with Omollo increasingly emerging as a counterweight to ODM’s traditional dominance.
With rallies, protests, public exchanges, and widening political fractures, the region is entering a defining moment.
PS Omollo’s growing grassroots appeal and Governor Wanga’s tightening of county control signal a high-stakes battle that could reshape alliances from Homa Bay to Kisumu—and reverberate nationally.
As the storm gathers momentum, all eyes now shift to what happens next.
